Last night's episode of That Show must have been so awesome it's left almost everybody speechless. That or everybody's keeping quiet out of deference to me. *thinks about it* Nah.
The ending of NuPris was unsatisfying, as it was more or less bound to be, but on its own terms, without comparisons, it kind of works. I see the very pretty youth playing Two's son is to have a significant role in the final Harry Potter films. I also notice (thank you Sky magazine) you almost had Tim Roth as Snape. A good reason for Rickman fans to be glad of Tim Burton's "reimagining" of Planet Of The Apes, which Roth went for instead. (Hmm...Matthew Hopkins in Witchfinder General was intended to be played by Donald Pleasence rather than Vincent Price, but American International insisted, and I think they were right.)
More housework. That's what I need.

I'll take your word for it...

We get it - you no longer like Dr Who. I think everyone knows that now.
When Dr Who first returned with Christopher Eccleston in the role, I watched a few episodes, and decided I really didn't like his portrayal - I mean *really* didn't like it. So I stopped watching the show, with no fuss and no drama. When Tennant took over, I knew (and liked) him from other stuff, so I tuned in, and was surprised to find I enjoyed it again.
With Matt Smith, I am still of two minds, but the last two episodes have been an improvement.

Date: 2010-05-24 02:01 pm (UTC)There's lots of things people post about (their kittens, their knitting, their local political party, Supernatural, J-pop etc.) that are fascinating *to them* and which I find tedious, and I just skip past.
I must apologise and say that your Myst fiction is one of those subjects, but I would never suggest you stop posting it. It's no more interesting *to me* than someone writing SPN slash fiction or the outcome of the Blackpool v Cardiff football match. But this doesn't mean it isn't interesting *to the author* ... and there is no duty to a general readership except to cut tag long posts on marginally interesting subjects.
I have no idea how many people are interested in my house decluttering ... but I'd guess it's probably not more than 25% of the people who have my journal on their friends list. Yet I'm happily posting up boring updates and will continue to do so.
Post because it makes you happy (or lets you vent). Your writing is good enough that people will read your writing because it's usually interesting ... and if it's a subject *they* find tedious, tney can skip it.
Personally, I'm amused that, although you've said you've given up on "That Show", that it still holds a sufficient grip on you that you can't really let go (amused may be the wrong word ... but it's close).

Date: 2010-05-24 01:55 pm (UTC)And there's always the faint hope that there will be "she's really missing you and wants you back" ...
It's Zander's journal, and I think he keeps hoping that someone will tell him "it's all changed, it's back being the show you loved and it wants you back". Or that he can find closure.
Zander still loves "Dr.Who", he just doesn't like what it's become (like Star Trek TOS fans who didn't like Next Gen ... and there were a lot of those at the time ... )
I have friends on LJ who had a romantic relationship end years ago, and still talk about "that woman". And in some cases I just skip posts when they start going on about how much she screwed up their lives or whatever the repeated moan is ... and for that matter, I've been dumped in the past and felt much the same way myself, though in nearly every case I've reconciled with the woman involved (there's one Australian ...) though in one case it took 20 years.

Date: 2010-05-24 04:32 pm (UTC)Oh gods, if someone could tell me that...
But I think reason has finally prevailed. I won't be expecting anything like that till the next change of Doctor/showrunner at the very earliest. And while I am still interested in what people think of it, even though I'm manfully trying not to watch it, I will try to mention it less.

Date: 2010-05-24 01:47 pm (UTC)As has been pointed out by someone else, Amy gets knocked out (she usually does at some point, or falls asleep, or gets gassed).
We have no explanation for why a world record breaking drill rig seems to be run by five people in a small Welsh village (though the excuse that everyone else leaves at night is about as good as it was when this part of the plot was used in Jurassic Park).
Nice to see the Silurians back.
Other than that ... nice moments, unexciting plot that's been done before (evil presence approaching, stealing people, last few survivors being picked off one by one) ... and I'm not expecting an Enemy Mine conclusion.
And it's the first half of a two-parter and I'm in no great need to see the second part live next weekend (though I'm guessing we will end up doing so).
