Oh look, another oncoming train...

Went downstairs last night to find water pouring out of the ceiling on to the electrical socket below.
There followed a confused interlude involving a plastic bag, a lot of tea towels and a hurriedly relocated toaster, a phone call to a plumber which ended suddenly shortly after the words "one hundred and ten pounds per hour or part of an hour," and a spell of numb misery before going to bed to the merry sound of complicated cross-rhythmic Chinese Water Torture.
Today I found a plumber who was actually willing to come out to an emergency on the same day (cf Woody Allen on the non-existence of God). He ripped off the lagging and showed me the two leaks in our twenty-year-old cylinder, and is currently fitting a new one. The bill comes on Friday and will be in the approximate region of £££, but at least we may have just about averted the house going up in a sheet of blue flame, for the moment.
Okay. What's next?
On the plus side, Jan's main Christmas present arrived today and that is paid for, and so did a certificate entitling her to some help towards her new glasses, whenever we can manage that. So, see, it's not all bad...

I don't like to think of 20-year-old cylinders - mine must be at least that age. So far, no problems, but....
[[[[[[hugs]]]]]] and commiserations.

Date: 2004-11-15 05:24 am (UTC)If you do, you may find that the cost of tidying up etc. is all covered.
It's always annoying that those that can't afford insurance are the ones that would benefit the most from having it ...
