Oh look, another oncoming train...

Went downstairs last night to find water pouring out of the ceiling on to the electrical socket below.
There followed a confused interlude involving a plastic bag, a lot of tea towels and a hurriedly relocated toaster, a phone call to a plumber which ended suddenly shortly after the words "one hundred and ten pounds per hour or part of an hour," and a spell of numb misery before going to bed to the merry sound of complicated cross-rhythmic Chinese Water Torture.
Today I found a plumber who was actually willing to come out to an emergency on the same day (cf Woody Allen on the non-existence of God). He ripped off the lagging and showed me the two leaks in our twenty-year-old cylinder, and is currently fitting a new one. The bill comes on Friday and will be in the approximate region of £££, but at least we may have just about averted the house going up in a sheet of blue flame, for the moment.
Okay. What's next?
On the plus side, Jan's main Christmas present arrived today and that is paid for, and so did a certificate entitling her to some help towards her new glasses, whenever we can manage that. So, see, it's not all bad...
