From Margery Allingham's "Tiger In The Smoke," in which Magersfontein Lugg is trying to drive through an old-fashioned London fog:
"I could do with a spot of p and q in a padded cell meself. That was Marble Arch I was 'ootin' at. I thought she was takin' 'er time."
Makes me laugh every single time.

Ah, it's characters again, my choices are very character driven, rather than plot (particularly with things involving a 'mystery', if I've read it before then I know the answer so that loses its interest but the characters still stay interesting).
