It was a beautiful mug from Boscastle in Cornwall, pot-bellied with a design of bare trees on a green background. I gave it to my mum when we visited many years ago, and got it back after my dad died. I didn't use it myself, kept it for best, but I loved to look at it. If you've visited us any time in the past year or two you've probably used it. I was shifting things to clean the work top and I knocked it off its hook and it broke.

I break things all the time, because I'm so fucking clumsy, but this was worse. I seem to be holding in a good deal of undirected and inappropriate anger at the moment for some reason, and I can't shift it. And now it's cost me a beautiful thing that I'll have to go to Cornwall to replace, because the pottery doesn't trade online as far as I can tell. I wouldn't trust the post with something like this anyway.

And now all I want to do is take the rest of our huge collection of mugs out into the garden and throw them at the wall one after the other. Which would be stupid.

Today, as some of my friends are wont to say, is SO fired.

Do you have any cheap and easily replaceble pillows or matresses?

Take one outside, or up to the bedroom, throw yourself at it and rip it to shreds with your bare hands.

It's not easy; it may even be impossible. But you're going to have a damn good try, alright?

I'll have a soothing [HUG] waiting for you when you've finished.

[ETA: It's OK to shout and swear at it too, and/or make any ferocious animalistic snarling noises that may seem appropriate in the moment. Just warn the Countess and any nearby felines first.]

I've found that having a good shout while vacuuming can help too. The noise of the vacuum cleaner drowns the shouting, and the plus is that the house is cleaner as a result. :)

I just broke a mug wiping a work top. Do I really want to let myself loose with a Dyson?

Vacuuming does need doing, but I think it will be safer if I calm down first. But thank you also.

A good shout or yell or scream anywhere you don't scare the animals can help. In the car, for instance (with the windows up and the engine running -- best if one isn't actually driving). Accompanied by as much swearing as you want. "Let it all hang out" as they used to say.

A really loud concert (or on headphones) can also help. Hawkwind, say.

Hugs...

Unfortunately, we sleep on them. All our mattresses have been due for replacement since approximately 1993. Besides, as with the mugs, I would feel silly and wasteful.

I'll just wait till it cools down and put it with all the rest. Bit of tamping down, no worries. But thank you for the suggestion.
