Apr. 23rd, 2010 04:01 amAnother hypo for the Countess tonight, when I surfaced from exhausted zonkage to discover her numbly sitting through some godsawful reality thing about weddings. Turned over to find Ann Widdecombe being irritating about the Ten Commandments. Researcher points out that there's little historical evidence for the Flight from Egypt as reported in Exodus. AW: "Oh, so you're saying none of it happened, then, it's all a figment of somebody's imagination, is it?" Researcher backpedals slightly out of politeness. AW: "So what you're saying is you don't know?" Pshaw. Also Pthackeray and Pchesterton.
I've always thought the more interesting commandments were the ones that got broken by Moses in his waxy wrath, among which I'm sure must have been "Thou shalt not confuse reasoned argument with hectoring and bullying." It's hard to see why Widdecombe blames the rise in alcohol and drug abuse on a falling away from Mosaic law, when "thou shalt not get drunk or stoned" is notable by its absence from the list. And what happened to "thou shalt honour and respect woman, for her burden is terrible and her wisdom is great"? I'm sure that should have been in there somewhere.
Mind you, I must have misheard the researcher's name. Elizabeth Stafford-Cthulhu really doesn't sound right...
Anyway, having topped up the sugar levels to the point where Jan can function, to bed. Night, all.
