Everything's Ending

Verse
There's not enough money for feeding the poor
But always enough for another damn war
And the antibiotics don't work any more
The future is not looking bright

Verse
The big corporations are feeling the strain
There's men unemployed now who'll not work again
There'll soon be no fuel left to power a plane
To find our way back to the light

Chorus
Everything's ending
The world that we knew
The comforting certainties
That guided us through
Everything's ending
The sky starts to fall
Will there be a new day
Or nothing at all?

Verse
The soul of the nation is bartered and sold
The men with the power are counting their gold
While the old and the ailing are dying of cold
And the streets are a jungle at night

Verse
The sun and the wind have been harnessed too late
We stand in our rags and we patiently wait
For the scraps that may fall from the privileged plate
And we try to believe we're all right

Chorus
Everything's ending
The world that we knew
The comforting certainties
That guided us through
Everything's ending
The sky starts to fall
Will there be a new day
Or nothing at all?

Bridge
Nietzsche said
"God is dead"
But what did we put in his place?
Orwell tried
To stem the tide
But we still have a boot in our face
Prophets all
Went to the wall
And our dreams disappeared without trace
Now our brakes are gone
And we hurtle on
To a fall with no semblance of grace...

Verse
Is there hope to be found in a prospect so black?
Since we found our way here, can we find our way back?
With the cords drawing tighter, is there one inch of slack?
All the answers are blocked from our sight

Verse
But there's good to be found in the hearts of us all
And we may yet do great things although we are small
If enough can be found who will answer the call
And join us in healing the blight

Chorus
Everything's ending
But that's not so sad
For some of those certainties
Have turned out to be bad
Everything's ending
But there's still work to do
We can still make a difference
And find our way to
A beginning that's new.

Same shit, different era I'm inclined to say
Only tech and fashion differentiate the day
But wars and famines and plagues still abound
And bullies will still knock the weak to the ground
And will do so in time when we've all become dust
And It will probably take something that's bigger than us
To table the clash for a day

Down in the deeps of the micro mire
Where the curse of Pandora is set afire
Toxins and mutants and nature's rage
Amass in an army prepared to engage
For every vaccine there's something poisonous
And it will easily take something that's smaller than us
To table the clash for a day

And yet still we fight, sometimes even survive
It's the fight that compels us and keeps us alive
For we know nothing else over millions of years
And are given no choice but succumb to our fears
'Cause it will only take something that's better than us
To table the clash for a day
