LJ and DW aren't letting me embed, so here's a link:

http://embed.ted.com/talks/allan_savory_how_to_green_the_world_s_deserts_and_reverse_climate_change.html

If what this man is saying is true, then, as [personal profile] x_mass (from whom I ganked the link) says, it needs to be spread as widely as possible.

It's also kind of nice for me and those like me who like eating meat. We may not be feeding ourselves efficiently, we may be responsible for the deaths of countless animals who would otherwise never have been born, we may be bloodmouth carnists whose stomachs are graveyards (as opposed to compost heaps), but at least we're not actually contributing to climate change. Moreover, by carrying on making it economically viable to keep and maintain large herds of livestock--and putting pressure on to change the way the animals are treated--we may even end up making a positive contribution to the reversal of climate change. We could save the world with a hamburger, to misquote Ben Elton. I'd like that.

Fascinating talk. Thank you for pointing it out - I'm planning to delve into his own website to understand the process itself better.

Thank you for posting that. I've reposted it on my journal, I hope you don't mind. I have to say that, being the scientific ignoramus that I am, what he's saying seems like common sense to me.
