We had a fun weekend with two of my fellow Cosmic Triflers, [livejournal.com profile] the_magician and [livejournal.com profile] eintx, [livejournal.com profile] valydiarosada being busy with an nMC rehearsal. We decided on a set list for Quarter Tone, which I can now reveal will include old ones (no, not The Old Ones), new ones, loved ones (we hope) and what-the-frod-was-that ones (mostly by me). We practised a bit, talked more, and actually got stuff done. I like it when that happens. And we watched the first film in the Sissi trilogy, in German with Dutch subtitles, which confused almost everybody but in a fun way.

There were interesting aspects to the weekend, as for instance when the power blipped and fried the power supply to the broadband router. Faced with a three to five working day dry spell before Sky could get a replacement to us, I tried PC World (no help) and Argos (success). Now when the replacement arrives we'll have a spare multi-thingy universal PSU in case anyone comes to visit and needs something charging. And in the meantime we have Internet and network and things.

We were also favoured by an impromptu obbligato for electric drill and shared wall, courtesy of our neighbours-who-are-not-Val-and-Stan, who have in the past complained bitterly about Jan's talking books keeping them awake at night. We have of course tried to be good neighbours about this, turning the volume down as far as possible and putting the player on foam to minimise the transmitted vibrations, but in the end Jan has to be able to hear it. It transpired that they were rewiring the house and had not thought to do what we would have done and warn us about the noise. As I type, five days later, they still have not finished digging channels out of this one party wall, leading me to wonder whether that house actually had electricity at all, not to mention how much of the wall is actually left on their side. Jan has not been happy at all, since she's still getting no sleep at night and having to try to sleep through the din. But we now have a perfect comeback when next they complain about the talking books; obviously the voices are coming in through the holes they drilled.

Apart from that, we go on, faintly boggled at the Joop Homme adverts on FX which seem to be saying "Death is so gay" (hardly a Murdochian sentiment, I'd have thought) and hoping another shoe won't drop before our next rehearsal in November.

Hugs, as usual, and hopefully this post won't lead to another argument.

You did what? How did you end up doing that? :-) The Romy Schneider one?

(At which point I should probably mention that this is a childhood favourite of mine, and I still love it and can quote it and it's actually one of the films that ocasionally my dad and I will rewatch together.)

[livejournal.com profile] eintx was amazed that I didn't know who Romy Schneider was ...

... and I must admit that I understood possibly more what was being said from the Dutch subtitles than the spoken German, but every now and then a word would float past that I recognised ...

I love Romy Schneider! :D

Well it's a rather oldfashioned German, I think, and they do use some Bavarian/Austrian words every now and then to give the speech a little flair, and they do thrill the "r" in a very posh, thetarical way so... :-) (And German is just plain tricky)

He understood quite a lot, in fact, and went all "aaaww" with "Sissi, ich liebe dich!" :)

Not from me!

That Argos power supply was a remarkably good price.

And you forgot to mention the excellent roast chicken Sunday lunch you prepared for us all ... yummy!

I don't know anything about power supply prices, but I absolutely agree about the Sunday lunch - it was perfect!
