...how a casual statement of the obvious, tacked on to a relatively inoffensive "gosh, isn't this nice"post, can turn into yet another knock-down, drag-out, head-on collision between two fundamentally incompatible points of view, just when you really need it not to?

I wonder, does anyone actually enjoy watching these things play out?

No idea on the specifics you're talking about but I really love watching an argument whittle away factual errors and logical inconsistencies until there's nothing but an axiomatic disagreement.
