nuWho in brief

* Return to nuWho standard trope where companion saves situation while Doctor lollops around and wibbles (or in this case, immediately decides to take irrevocable and invasive action rather than trying other avenues despite conspicuous lack of onrushing deadline in this case).
* "Brand new" "original" situation in which humans are exploiting a powerful and sentient alien being because they haven't bothered to try communicating with it. (coughcreaturefromthepitcoughandthat torchwoodonewiththemeatcough)
*A good old go at humanity in general and theBritish sorry, yes, English (I forgot for a moment, Moffat's a Scot) in particular (for cruelty to animals, would you believe, as well as being the only country too poor and/or too cheap to build a proper spaceship), which I expect to be hammered home some more next week when we're the only country to think Daleks are a good idea.
* Nasties with immobile faces which change to a snarl when they're about to attack (and then don't actually do anything). Again, very original, Mr Moffat.
*Doctor is being Tennant again. Changing the accent is not enough.
On the plus side, when your expectations are as low as mine it's hard to be disappointed, and there were some funny lines.

But is is very annoying how young he looks. It jars.
I'm getting old!
"Don't allied military commanders look young these days..."
Still too slick, and not developed enough plot, 'tho.
If it stays like this, rather than develops, then it'll be crapola.
