As you know, Bob, I'm writing a new lyric every other chapter or so for the Gestalt story Return To Argenthome now running on Avevale. This one was meant to be a Kaichang song, but it doesn't sound right for her, so here it is for all you lucky people reading my LJ and DW.
If Girls Had Wings
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings and boys were bound
To run and jump along the ground
And try to catch them all in vain
No woman could be caught and chained
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings...
They'd nest in mountain tops and trees
And laugh and play and take their ease
For women would at last be free
From servitude and slavery
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings...
Then men would hunt with bow and spear
And then at last it would be clear
What women really are to men
Mere beasts to hunt, or keep in pen
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings...
Then men would make a mighty law
That women should have wings no more
For flying were a sin most dire
To damn them to eternal fire
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings...
Then parents would, with pious tears,
Send for the man with saw and shears
To cut their daughters' wings away
And save them from the judgment day
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings...
In China men bound women's feet
To make their loveliness complete
And though we now think that a shame
We know men would do just the same
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings...
You men who so aggrievedly say
That that's not you, you're not that way
To make our grievances less real
Consider how you'd really feel
If girls had wings...
If girls had wings...
"I don't have wings,"
"Of course not. You're a boy."
