Gary Trudeau, creator of Doonesbury, remarks of certain journalists who have taken to Twittering that they are so taken with the idea of a "personal broadcasting system" that they aren't much bothered about the fact that they don't have anything meaningful to broadcast. (I can't remember the actual quote or where I saw it, so if I have something wrong I apologise.)

While I don't Twitter, this does pretty much describe yer umble when it comes to blogging. I just realised that I'm sitting here looking for something to post about. I don't have any song ideas, the Lulu projects are still stalled (the Angel Island info was interesting and will help, but I still don't seem to have enough fuel to make orbit, or even lift off), Mrs Curbinand is still dead, there's nothing that I trust myself to be waspish about, and we aren't doing anything interesting. So here I am posting about having nothing to post about. Because I miss the act of posting? Because I need comments to convince me that I'm real? Because it saves me having to do the more difficult writing? Because it's that or go do housework?

Probably that last one. Ho for the sink, then.

Have you been reading some of the recent Doonesbury comments, where the reporter has become a frequent Twitter poster? They're funny.

Posting is a very good procrastinating device. But as they say about everything, things are good in moderation. I don't think you've been abusing anything at all, but everyone is entitled to do just a rambling post where is just no point other than type in what occurs in your head. You'll be surprised as to what floats around in there... (example: me comparing grapes to a certain insect as I'm eating said fruit, which managed to gross out lutos. I am amused by accomplishing that)

The difference between meaningless broadcasting here and on Twitter is on Twitter you can only be meaningless for 140 characters at a time. :-)

Hey - sometimes it's just about wanting to connect. I just like to hear from my friends, even if they've been doing nothing at all.

That. In our cases that's mostly what we use it for, I suspect, but the journalists I suspect aren't doing that. At least, someone who posts hundreds of tweets a day is going well over the top for just letting people know they are still alive!
