It is, of course, probable that this is just a cold and I am a typical man making a lot of fuss about nothing.

On the other hand, the pain killers have stopped handling the pain, the decongestants aren't handling the congestion, and I can't sleep despite going to bed at eight o'clock. So my money's on the rank outsider which is actual flu, like what the flu jab I had was supposed to prevent.

In other news, despite the onset of this I have managed to paint the walls of the dining room*, to go with the new wooden floor we now have in there, and get all the furniture back in time for [livejournal.com profile] aunty_marion's visit. Pictures may follow at some point. The conservatory, also now floored and skirting-boarded, will be next, but probably not quite just yet. The plan is to replace the carpet in the living room (horrible), hall (just old), stairs (frankly unsafe) and landing (to go with the stairs) some time in the New Year when we have money again. At which point they'll all need painting.

And on that joyful prospect, I'm going to try and go to bed again. Good night, world.

*We do not speak of the fact that I managed to get completely the wrong colour and paint completely the wrong wall with it last night, thus necessitating a hurried repaint this morning. The Countess assures me that she will find a use for the rest of the tin. Somehow.

FWIW, my in-laws have had flu-jabs (on the grounds of their diabetes amongst other things) for the past few years. The jabs are always followed by a mini-'flu, which sounds like the same sort of thing that you've had.

Nev got the proper 'flu one year before he was entitled to the jabs. He was bedridden for two weeks and lost two stone.

The good news for you is that it doesn't last anywhere *near* as long as the full 'flu, so it should start to clear after a couple of days. Sounds like you've got a cold as well, though, as the snots aren't generally a part of the 'flu, so that may need to run it's course. On which you have my full sympathy as we're all deep in the middle of the snots ourselves. Bleah!

Well done you on all that dining room work!
*hugs* and hopes it's just a cold and will go away again real quick.

My dad had the flu jab but he came down with the nasty bug that's going around, we've all had it too, rest, warmth and lots of liquids is about the only thing (so well done on all that painting and shifting feeling so icky), everyone seems to be going down with it, takes at least a week depending on how active you are at the time...

Be advised that the vaccine only covers 3 strains and there are multitudinous strains possible. While you could have influenza, if it is similar in any way to the vaccine, your illness will be less severe than it could have been.

And a really nasty, plain old cold virus can take you down rather thoroughly too, so don't discount it. Short of an actual test for influenza virus, it could be that too.

Don't forget that some types of pneumonia are pretty extreme too ... and can kill the immune compromised (infants, elderly, folks on steroids, chemotherapy, or with other immune suppressing factors).

If you actually end up having trouble breathing, or a fever spikes up over 103 F, get to a doc asap (this is your other mother - didn't know you had one, did you!)
