...though possibly not a lot.

I went to see the duty nurse about this blocked feeling in my right ear, which is not responding to the ear drops and is having a far more drastic effect on my general well-being than I had envisaged.

Apparently my right ear is completely clear.

My left, on the other hand (not literally, you understand, I don't have an ear on my hand, that would be ridiculous), is badly blocked up.

"But that's the one I'm hearing through," I told the nurse.

"No it isn't," she said, with that serenity that comes of absolute conviction.

So I have to put the ear drops in the functioning ear, and if there's no change by the end of the week, go back and they'll have another look.

I suppose it is possible that in a moment of absent-mindedness I put my ears on the wrong way round. Or perhaps it's my brain that's in backwards. I wish someone would tell me these things.

And in the meantime, I continue (temporarily, please gods) half deaf.

Fah, as Londo would say. Also me, ray and doh.

Sympathies and good wishes, by the way, to those who have real problems, such as [livejournal.com profile] filkertom who is in hospital and has had to punt his entire summer schedule.

I saw a posting saying he wasn't going to be at some con (Contata?) but I haven't seen anything else saying *why* he's unwell, or that he was in hospital ... what have I missed? Where do we sent "get well soon" emails?

Oh, and please may your ears clear up and get sorted out soon!

Have they given you enough of the drops to put them in both ears?

I have plenty. And if that fails there's a big bottle of olive oil in the kitchen. :)

The Countess thinks I have a problem with my Eustachian tubes. I told her, it's all transistors in there now...

And you've been nowhere near Euston Station anyway ... :-)

I'm sorry but I had to chuckle aloud when I read yours and the nurse's exchange over which ear was blocked... but I seriously hope that by putting drops in the 'proper' ear will fix things up.

I shouldn't laugh, because it's obviously painful and worrying for you, but the mental image of you holding the ear in your hand made me giggle madly.

And take 2000 extra points and a Gold Star for quoting Londo. I have finally watched the Lost Tales, and now I badly badly miss the B5 universe.

I do hope your ears start behaving STAT.:)

Your brain is actually in upside down. This is a well-known cause of your type of ear problem. The only really effective solution is extraction of the brain through the navel, followed by reinsertion through the nose. Do not attempt this without the help of a qualified technician. You might end up hearing through your hands.

*reads again*

Oh. I see. You already did this. Silly boy.

You have apparently forgotten that the left ear is controlled by the right brain, and the right ear by the left brain. You have obviously been given not ear drops, but brain drops.

Well, I'm still a little disgruntled that the drops I've been putting in the right ear haven't found their way to the left ear. I mean, it's not as if there's anything much in the way.

Are you saying you have no brain? That TOTALLY explains your icon of "DON'T MOVE! I've lost my brain" ;-)

(I know it's from PotC 3, and I love the quote)

"PotC 3"? Is this something I should see? (I'm abyssmal at acronyms -- I can make them up fine, and 5 minutes later have no idea what I was talking about. Although that's normal for me even without acronyms...)

Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End. Captain Jack Sparrow says the quote about 80% way through the movie.
