I've noticed that Johnny Depp frequently if not invariably chooses someone to channel/impersonate for a given performance: Roddy McDowall and (apparently, according to him) Angela Lansbury for Sleepy Hollow, Michael Caine for From Hell, Keith Richards for Pirates, and so on. This is not to disparage his skill as an actor, it's just his particular approach to his craft.
I finally worked out tonight whom he was doing in Sweeney Todd, or at least narrowed it down to a choice of two: either the young Bowie circa Laughing Gnome, or the guy he was modelling himself on at the time, Anthony Newley.
It's good to have cleared that up.
In other news, the visit went very well, I did a bit of singing and some very bad keyboard playing, and unearthed a bunch of songs I thought I'd managed to lose years ago. A good weekend.

And our little improv music bit (me on 12 string, you doing lovely jazzy piano stuff) was lovely ... we should do more of that :-)
And your roast beef was absolutely lovely! Wish I could have eaten some of it :-( ... but the point of losing weight is so that I can exercise, be healthy and choose what I want to eat, and when I'm eating again, I will definitely be choosing to eat your roast dinners :-) (just like the other food you cook, lovely stuff!)
