avevale_intelligencer: (I do Uru.)

"Dear fans,

We've received a number of request regarding the future of Uru - specifically servers and fan created ages. Cyan is seriously considering running a server and opening up some of the Uru code so the fans can truly have a viable path for the care and feeding of Uru. The problem at this point is that we're at a place where we can't really make any decisions along that line until GameTap decides what they're going to do with Uru. We're waiting for a reply from them.

We had hoped to avoid a dramatic fracturing of fans to various other communities and solutions. Here's hoping we can get an answer soon. Thanks so much for your support."

They want to do it. Just like they always said. Even if it doesn't happen...they want to do it.

That's excellent: it shows that they are genuine about their commitment.

As I have had occasion to point out before, in relation to When this war is done, can we have a little peace ?, "I bin trying to have a little piece for years now, Maarster Gob, but 'er faather's got an amazin' large pitchfork and 'e don' loike me."

So there is a chance that I could play Uru after all... cool. :-) Come on GameTap!

Happy day indeed!

That is very good news. I would think the "decision" has more to do with membership fees than with content...they laid an egg trying to make it episodic, now they're trying DIY which is a CONSIDERABLE step for Cyan.

That's what did it - people flocking to other games in anticipation of shutdown. Gametap really thought that the other games they had would keep their members - but who really wants 18 versions of video pinball or Atari and Activision games that don't respond well to keyboards or today's game controllers?

And given that non-Americans couldn't even access most of the other Cyan games they've got... (not that I needed to, but it's the principle of the thing, don'tcher know).

Very good point. Kiss off the international market and both are in deep doo-doo.
