I'm taking the DC home tomorrow, and will try to do there and back in one day. This has become more urgent since, while refuelling the car tonight, I attempted to walk through the little flap that covers the filler cap, and it registered a terminal objection. I do not want to leave the car unguarded in any strange places for any length of time till I can get it fixed. Especially in Flatland, after all the Countess's stories about Fenland farmers', what shall I say, keen sense of economy...

Good thoughts for the next two days would be appreciated. After that it's off to the garage.

Don't you just love sod's law?

Good thoughts are yours, as requested. Have a safe trip.

Gaffer Tape.

Good luck with the drive - take an hour at the other end, if you can, to walk around, have a cup of tea, etcetera, and clear your mind for the return journey. Also on the return journey, STOP AS OFTEN AS YOU FEEL NECESSARY. You will be more tired than you may realise. Trust me. (BTDT)

I'm not sure which bit of Fenland you're aiming for, but if the route involves Cambridge, you're welcome to tea here?

That would be a lovely thought, but I think I miss Cambridge by quite a margin (I go Oxford-->Northampton-->Wellingborough-->Peterborough and then on to Wisbech). I'd love to do it another time though, especially if the Countess is up to travelling with me. We miss our friends something awful.

We're a fair way away in that respect, unfortunately, but I'll point out that Mr & Mrs Whitaker have a remarkably good kettle...

True, but they also have busy lives (like many of our friends). In the event I made it safely (just).
