Date: 2007-12-17 09:25 am (UTC)There was a Watering Hole, and there was a Blue Book (Mostkly because the Diary got onto a London bus and never got off again).
Zan had "worked out" the Nyronds before, and I *think* I'd seen one or two cameos, but then he turned out the start of a longer story and, getting "stuck" (Which is Zander for Lend me a hand here when a more self-aware writer would say I'll have the next bit in about ten minutes' time, but look at what I have and see if you want to throw anything in. So I added a bit (as I remember, a bland and unexceptional bit) and left a hook at then end, and he promptly hurled himself onto the latter, did five minutes' intense writing, handed it back, said something like "Is that better ?" and I found he'd twisted the plot till I had to write a Way Out.
That was how they started, but they were wonderful to do. We could work up little wrinkles in each other's ideas, then leave them to each other to develop, secure in the "knowledge", that we could (we were sure of it) write ourselves out again any time we liked.
And (breaking the unwritten rule) it was written for us, and not for publication principally. I miss those days. I miss the laughter, and the inspiration, and the sharing. Especially the sharing.

We had to get out of London in order to find somewhere big enough, cheap enough and on the ground, whereas Soren had already solved that problem for himself and put down roots in the community. We have at least two Nyrond stories currently on indefinite suspension, but writing over the net really isn't the same as sitting face to face, and we don't get to do enough of that.
