We aimed to set off around ten-thirty to attend the wedding of our dear friend [livejournal.com profile] callylevy. So, promptly at soon after one, we piled into the car and followed the route suggested by my Maps app, which involved a completely new way out of Westbury and consequently a good deal of stress right off the bat. Also fun was the way the car started juddering; don't know what's causing that, but a trip to a garage would seem to be indicated before we try to get to Heathrow on Thursday, if at all possible. We eventually made it to the Fennes estate at about five, by which time they were doing the photographs. Another triumph for Nyrond organisational skills.

That said, we had a splendid time. Lots of filkers were in attendance, and we wished we could have got to talk to all of them properly, but then it wasn't that kind of occasion. It was a Jewish wedding, a first for us, and some of the ceremony overflowed into the reception, which was fascinating to me. I'm intrigued by some aspects of Judaism; a religion in which scholars have spent thousands of years thinking, questioning, arguing, picking apart their scriptures and writing commentaries on them, and are still doing so, seems to me the perfect comeback to the lazy cliche about religion destroying the ability to reason. I missed the ceilidh due to worrying about how to get to the Premier Inn where I am writing this. Thankfully [livejournal.com profile] valydiarosada's husband, the redoubtable David, volunteered to take me there so I could check in and also learn the way. We got back in time for the speeches and dessert, and the concert that followed was diverse and excellent; I had rashly said I would do something, but fortunately they were running late, so I was able to bow out gracefully since I hadn't prepared anything.

So here we are, winding down gratefully after an excellent day, and looking forward to another interesting journey tomorrow and a crowded three days before setting off again. It was a wonderful day, and we're so glad we were invited. I really must get better at organising myself in the morning, though.
