Help needed
Nov. 16th, 2011 03:32 amOkay, here's the thing: I have absolutely no clue how to mike myself.
I know how to sing past a mike, mostly, but balancing levels and distance and volume of singing is a closed book to me. When I've sung at cons it's just been a case of "sing into this" and all the hard stuff has been done for me, which was a great help at the time but taught me nothing, and I know there have been technique workshops but I missed them. When I see people performing they're belting their hearts out into a mike that's two inches from their face, and I have no idea how you set levels for that.
I need some hands-on help. Preferably before I start laying down final vocal tracks for Owls.
(And right away there's an elephant in the room, because the person who, a week ago, I would have asked isn't here any more, and I'm picturing him refusing point-blank to comply with the dress code for return visits in an effort to take my mind off the fact, once again brought home to me, that he's gone.)
I realise we're getting into the run-up to Christmas and everyone will be busy, but if someone knowledgeable in these matters would be willing to trog down here and help me work out how to do this thing properly, I would pay petrol and provide food.
