I haven't read Harlan Ellison's "The Beast That Shouted Love At The Heart Of The World," but I do remember thinking that he might not have to shout so much if he aimed for the ear instead. A lesson I seem to find it impossibly hard to learn myself: don't waste your time talking to that which cannot listen.
