No Shelf Control
Feb. 23rd, 2006 11:16 amI had PLANS this weekend.
This weekend was going to be Clear Out Under The Stairs Weekend.
axylides has been indicating for some time that she wants shelves up under there, and we now have shelving kit courtesy of Rolf and Carole, so I was all geared up to start on that. Then, on Saturday morning, I ill-advisedly put my weight on one of our bookshelves to lever myself up from behind the table, and with a sickening crack the shelf splintered in several places and gave way underneath me.
I know. I said "ill-advisedly." I was an idiot, I know it.
So all the stuff had to be taken off and all the loose shelves removed from the bookshelf in question, which had to be hoiked forward away from the wall so that I could take out the screws which had been holding the failed shelf in position (yes, it was one of the fixed ones) and swap in one of the whole shelves. The failed one underwent running repairs and was redesignated as a loose shelf, and all was well. Except that somewhere in the process I did my back in, and that, combined with the onset of the bug the Countess has been suffering from all week, took my plans and lightly tossed them out of the window. One pain I could have coped with, but not two at once.
I can heartily recommend Thermacare self-heating support belts for this kind of bad back. They make it possible to move almost normally for eight hours out of every twenty-four, and I think I'm almost mended. The bug is taking a little longer to collect its hat and coat and be on its way. I just wish I had done the back in doing what I was planning to do rather than something entirely unrelated...
Sigh.
