All's Faire In Love...
Mar. 16th, 2013 08:14 pmWe just watched this movie. It would be a charming comedy set in and around an American Renaissance Faire, were it not for two abysmal performances; Chris Wylde as the nominal villain hams it up to a degree that would cause three-year-olds to facepalm, and Owen Benjamin as the romantic male lead plays as though he's just filling in till the real actor turns up. Average the two of them out and you might get two halfway decent actors.
There are redeeming features, including Christina Ricci who is always watchable. Also, I've long been curious about Ren Faires, as opposed to the soberer mediaeval re-enactments we have over here. Based on what I've seen here, I think I might rather like them; if I can have historical authenticity and fun at the same time that's fine, but if it comes to a choice I'll take fun every day.
If you can stand one actor overplaying every syllable while another phones in his part via satellite in his sleep, and you like light comedy, you might enjoy this.
