As you all know, our resources have been seriously depleted for many years now. We have been unable to power long-range sensors, or to check our trajectory, and there has been some doubt among the crew as to whether we will ever reach the planetary system that we seek. Life support has been harder and harder to maintain, and morale has suffered accordingly.
I can now report that short-range sensors have detected a small planetoid directly ahead. We should reach it within the next ten days. According to the Science Officer, this planetoid may well contain enough raw material to replenish all resource tanks and make at least some of the necessary repairs. Not only that, but the computers have estimated that there is a high probability that this planetoid may indicate the presence of a star system further ahead, possibly no more than months away.
I realise that this is good news, but I would still sound a note of caution. We have a long way to go yet, and we have no data on this star system, if it even exists. It may not be hospitable, or there may be other intelligent life there with whom we would have to negotiate. By all means celebrate, but let's not go mad just yet, eh?
Magnetic grapple and resource extraction drills will commence immediately, and all crews should consider themselves in a state of Yellow Alert till further notice. Well done, everybody. Captain out.
