The opticians can't do much with a snapped frame, so I have it held in with sellotape at the moment, which isn't ideal but at least means I can do things. How long it will last gods only know. I have an appointment for an overdue sight test on Thursday and then we shall have to see about some new glasses, won't we?
But why don't you have a spare pair, Zander? Because whenever there's been an offer of two pairs for the price of one I've been just fine and dandy with the pair I've got. Glasses are a non-trivial expense and when you live at our level you don't get them just because they're cheap this week, and you don't--ever--pay for two pairs. Not when you only have one head. And then of course this happens and you wish you had, knowing that if you had something else would have gone short, something as important or more so.

Date: 2013-03-09 12:33 pm (UTC)When I got my current glasses (varifocals), I was bold enough and fortunate enough to be able to throw the extra dosh at a spare pair, which had to be a of slightly simpler & cheaper type than the main ones. Strangely enough, the spare pair are the ones I wear regularly these days, after the mega-expensive lenses kept falling out of the posh pair. =:o\
In retrospect, I wish I'd just bought a cheap pair of working-distance specs off the internet and got used to swapping them over with my old ones for long distance work. I'd still have been able to use either pair as a back-up, and could have saved the dosh for other things. Ah well.
