Well, that was great fun. And I'm not being sarcastic when I say that for once.
We had a band rehearsal, with the wonderful
eintx who came over specially. She arrived on Thursday and found me (as usual) barely prepared, but on Friday morning she pitched in and helped me with some very serious cleaning, so that when
valydiarosada and
the_magician (with special guest
pickledginger, whom we hadn't seen for years and who is lovely) arrived they did not immediately have to resort to hazmat suits and respirators. (I'm going to get confused as to days here, so if I put things on the wrong day I apologise.)
pickledginger, who had brought loads of food and spent most of the weekend doing the rest of the housework that I should have been doing, blessed us with an excellent meat loaf and veggies, while I provided little spuds. There was a very nice Chinese-cum-fish'n'chips meal on Saturday night, and I did a Sunday lunch as per SOP. We made a lot of music, mostly on Saturday and Sunday, and we had the now traditional computer scare, when the power went off and Jan's computer, which she'd just started using for the first time in years, wouldn't restart. Thankfully Chris provided the reassuring presence that I am no longer able to summon up after too many of these things, and it came back after a tense interlude.
We also watched football.
Moderate your cries of astonishment. This was a game between two German teams and
eintx was very keen to see it and had very nicely asked first, and anyway we usually break off on these weekends so Chris can watch people in oversized roller skates going phffrrrrmmmmphpbbbbt round a track, so this wasn't much different. I don't care for football much (too much like real life--you run and dodge and sweat to get the ball thing to one end of the field using just your feet, because the stupid rules say you can't pick it up and carry it, and then some fool on the other team nicks it and punts it all the way back to where you started and you don't even get points for trying) but the others enjoyed it, and S had brought peanut-flavoured corn puff things, which I quickly acquired a taste for, and non-alcoholic beer which I left for those who fancied it, so there was goodness to be had.
And on Sunday we managed to watch most of Talis live from the Mill House, after some more tension when the laptop wouldn't sustain the streaming wotsit. I eventually hooked Jan's iPad up to the telly and got it pretty well on there, and it was fun. Puny laptop is puny. (Or there's some technical thing I should have known to do beforehand. Dunno. Technoramus over here.)
A really, really nice weekend. Lots of music, some new songs, lots of hugs and cats on laps, good talk and company, good food and drink, and we had people still on Monday (though not V as she was picked up by David to go to Malvern). It was just what we both needed, and my heartfelt thanks go to my bandmates and partners for coming all this way and putting themselves out.
Looking forward to the next one!
