Weird day...

We had a bomb threat at work. So we had to gather in the middle of the floor with the windows open and the blinds closed, and then evacuate and stand in a nearby car park while a suspect package was found and presumably removed. As I pointed out, the obvious thing to do is plant a fake package in the building and bomb the car park... I can't help wondering who'd want to bomb us, though. We pay out money to old people in the West Country so they can live. Okay, not much money, but we do pay it. Hardly a high-profile target.
And then I get home and log on to LJ and see a link (which I'm not going to copy here) to an American lady I don't think I know, who posted some adverse opinions about the current president on her journal and got denounced to the Secret Service. I don't know what she actually said, and nor will anyone else who didn't read it at the time, because that post is deleted. The Secret Service people were apparently very nice, and decided that she and her family were not a threat to the American way of life. But she now has a record with the FBI, may not be able to fly any more ever, and may have severe problems in the future, because she spoke freely.
"Watchers 'neath our Windows, lest we mock the king..." indeed. Isn't it amazing how far we haven't come, that we're one rigged election away from the good old days of Joes McCarthy and Stalin. And of course, what America has this year we'll have next year.
Someone convince me that things can get better again.
Please.
