I,for one, certainly did not think that you would condone this, or defend the Catholic church. I do not know any of my Catholic friends who will, either.
I agree with nearly all of this - but please to be remembering that most of the anti-abortionists/anti-choice people in the US, at least, are actually Protestant... and a great many Catholics (including in Brazil) just ignore the Pope on the subject of birth control and abortion.
