I can see two groups who would have a problem with it, both I think quite small; those who would help those in need anyway but resent someone else telling them to, and those who simply don't want to help anyone but themselves.
The second group I have no time for. The first group...I can understand the feeling, because I've felt it myself. It's the same feeling you get when someone tells you to do something you were going to do anyway, and you think what kind of idiot do you think I am? and just for a second the thought crosses your mind that you could deliberately not do it just for spite.
But when I have that feeling, I know it's a small and mean and unworthy feeling, and I try to put it behind me. I wouldn't make it one of the basic elements of a political position.
