More stirring middle-class morality from the Doctor tonight, all about how immortality is Bad because You Get All Bored And Stuff And Have To See People Die, which applies to anyone who lives much beyond the age of ten, and also because This Is The Way It Is And The Way It Is Is The Way It Should Be And It May Not Be The Best Possible World But Anything Else Would Be Worse, which has been advanced against every major change in society since the late Paleolithic, only they said it more succinctly then, with a club. And of course they had to make the immortal a Thoroughly Bad Lot and they had to make the experiment go Tragically Wrong which Served Him Right. Sigh. One day, I keep hoping, someone will make one of these in which the discoverer of immortality is both good enough to deserve it and clever enough to have thought through what she's going to do with it. Because it's going to happen one day, just like the Bomb, and all the pious moralising and telling-ourselves-it-shouldn't in the world isn't going to change that.
But it ain't going to happen on NuWho. Because NuWho Watches For The Mutant.
Next week: hiatus. I could watch something else.
