The Gilchrist machine is located just outside Avevale, on grounds belonging to Avevale College, formerly Convulsion Hall. It's tended by Head of Research Willard Karloman,
ably or otherwise assisted by Chief Scientist Erasmus Jilt
and Liaison Officer Humphrey Surcease. Under them, Chief Technician Gerald Scutella
rides herd on a small army of technicians and craftsmen whose job is to keep the machine running, and Doctor Heidi van Joost
makes sure they stay as healthy and sane as anyone who works with the machine can be.
Occasionally it is necessary to send a party into one of the worlds accessed by the machine--worlds of fact or of fiction, worlds strange beyond imagining and worlds as familiar as yesterday's commercials. For these volunteer-only missions, a team of specialists is always on call:
As Karloman is wont to say: "It's a $%£&() good thing we're *&*@~@ top secret. If any #@%$£% knew about us, they'd &%$£@# die laughing."
Fortunately, of course, even if anyone knew, they would never believe it.
