Acting upon information received, I proceeded to [address given], the residence of a Seir Tollain Kintarsh and five of his friends. There I was accosted by Seir [name given], a neighbour, who presented me with three young ladies in a state of some excitement. He deposed that he had been awakened by the sounds of a vehement altercation in the garden outside Seir K's house, and on apprehending the source of the disturbance, had--as he had, he said, on many occasions previously threatened to do--contacted the police, viz. myself.
I then interviewed the three young ladies, each of whom claimed to be Suncat Morningsky Kintarsh, the wife of the householder, and to have discovered the other two attempting, separately, to break into the house. Their accounts, however, were circumstantial in the extreme, and on inspection of the premises I could obtain no substantive corroboration for any of their statements.
Verification of identity also proved to be a vexed question, as none of the three young ladies possessed any identification papers, each claiming "never to have bothered with all that stuff." Biometric data was obtained from all three, but proved impossible to check, as the planetary database has not been updated in fifteen years due to staff shortages. Seir K and his other four friends are currently on an extended tour of a neighbouring sector of space, which Sera K was scheduled to join once she returned from visiting her father on the planet Argenthome. This she had, apparently, done today, only to discover two "look-a-likes," as they are popularly called--admirers whose admiration takes the form of imitation, even in extreme cases to the point of cosmetic surgery--breaking into her home.
Interviewed separately, the three potential Sera K's displayed remarkable similarities. They seemed more amused than perturbed by the situation, and each urged me as far as possible to "go easy" on the other two. They were all extremely familiar with Sera K's life history and opinions on a variety of subjects--more so, I must admit, than myself--and each one implored me not to bother trying to contact Seir K, as "it would only worry him." Needless to say, I did try to contact him, but local spatial conditions made the connection unsustainable, and in repeated efforts to get through I used up the entire divisional budget for com traffic till next month. (I hereby request an extension.)
Being for the moment at a loss how to proceed, I am submitting the entire affair to you for your consideration. I would strongly recommend that when the real Sera K is identified, she be strongly reprimanded for wasting police time.
