Failbetter Games
Aug. 9th, 2012 11:27 am(which itself is a name to conjure with, don't you think?) are working on a package for designing games like their Fallen London and The Night Circus, to allow people to grow their own. It's called Story Nexus, and I'm very excited about it.
While I love the idea of making a Story Nexus game about my own Story Nexus (recursion: see Recursion), I think it might be more fun to try and base one around some part of the Nyrond experience. It would have to be a part; I couldn't possibly design anything as big as FL on my tod. Homeship life, possibly, from arrival/vathatching through training to, well, homeship life.
I wonder if anyone would be interested? It's early days yet, of course, they're nowhere near alpha yet let alone beta (correction: closed beta running as we speak), but the draft manual looks copable-with. Find it here, if you're interested. (Or if that doesn't work, you should be able to get there from here.)

Oh dear gods...
Aug. 9th, 2012 03:05 pmWe open on a scene of DEEP SPACE. Stars, nebulae, maybe a planet in the foreground.
VOICE: (deep, sepulchral) Earth...has been conquered.
Start a slow PULL BACK.
VOICE: The mighty vessels of the Combine descended from space without warning, sweeping all before them. The planet's air defences were annihilated by Combine fighter-scouts. Resistance on the ground was quashed by Combine shock troops. The planet's resources were harvested by Combine...harvesters.
Keep PULLING BACK. More stars, maybe a hint of curvature at the edges, some blurring in the foreground that might be words.
VOICE: Now Earth is a frontier outpost in a war between the great galactic powers, a colony whose native population seethes with revolt, ruled over by a governor chosen from those races of the Combine closest in physiology to the planet's norms.
PULL BACK further. The words become A PRESENT FROM EARTH, and we are looking at a SNOW GLOBE full of stars and planets, on the cluttered desk of a harassed alien GOVERNOR. He is mostly humanoid, with just enough difference to set him apart. Around him various humans and aliens are shouting, gesturing, thumping his desk and generally carrying on, and now we start to hear them faintly as the GOVERNOR puts his head in his hands and we realise we are hearing his thoughts:
VOICE: (with just a shade of whininess now) And frankly, I'm wondering what the Driffleblig I did to deserve it.
No guarantees. I am after all the king of the false start. But here it is for what it's worth.
