I'm almost back, and to prove it...

Several people on my flist have now linked to this article, the apparent subtext being "look at the stupid/dishonest Christians, don't even know their own religion, evil male chauvinist priests hiding the truth from the people, ha ha."
Anyone who reads the article to the end, or at all (which apparently rules out most of the commenters, admittedly) will discover that the slightly less patriarchal variant of Judaism whose vestiges remain in the Biblical quotes cited seems to have pretty much died out nearly six hundred years before Christianity was conceived. Which would render the article, not to mention (I would imagine) the three-part TV series, completely irrelevant to Christians, much as phlogiston is irrelevant to modern chemistry. Or at least it seems so to me, on the information given.
Either way, though, in a time when there are legitimate, serious and relevant complaints to level at the Christian churches, this kind of stupidity just weakens whatever effect those real complaints may have and makes the opposition look silly. And you know how I hate that.
My fingers are now a lot better, though the forefinger is still mostly blister and I probably won't be ripping off any screaming guitar licks this weekend. On the other hand (see what I did there?), I am seriously behindhand with housework and we have friends coming, so I need to get busy.
