Dec. 28th, 2009 11:52 amAs the old year dies, one of the most depressing things I've encountered (outside my own failures) is the continuing existence of Sarah Palin as a political force, as verified by Doonesbury.
How discredited does someone have to be before they just shut up and go away already? I know that there are those who have not yet given up on Obama, and those who recognise that he could be a whole lot worse and still be better than the other lot, but the realisation that what passes for an alternative to the right has proved so unpopular in both our countries that the people are almost bound to rush headlong back into the arms of the out-and-out robber barons (as opposed to robber buttons) as soon as the chance arises makes me really reluctant to venture too far into 2010. I can't take another decade of gleeful exploitation and bloody-minded greed, I really, honestly, can't.
