Jun. 12th, 2006 07:07 amApparently the Co-op are no longer going to be selling foods marked "suitable for diabetics," following a statement by some agency or other that the existence of such foods "undermines the message" for diabetics. In other words, there can't be diabetic chocolate because diabetics need to learn that they jolly well can't have any chocolate, so there, and it serves them right.
There was a great deal of fuss when AIDS first appeared, because some idiots declared that in their opinion it was God's punishment for being homosexual. No-one ever seems to challenge the more deeply-buried, but much more prevalent assumption (which I have encountered time and again) that diabetes is God's punishment for eating too many sweeties. I* suppose that will endure till we find out what actually does cause it. More worrying is the fact that medical quangoes are telling food shops what not to sell and they're knuckling under. How long till butter is a controlled substance?
