Having done the meme, some real content (well, kind of)...

I’m still travelling on the train at the moment, and enjoying the endless variations on lateness, faultiness or occasionally complete non-existence that seem to have been the norm since the early sixties, and Castle Cary puzzles me.

I’ve never been there, but the impression I have is that it’s not a populous city. It’s not as big on the map as Frome or Shepton Mallet, and the pictures I’ve seen speak of olde-worlde charm rather than bustling modernity. But it has a station which is a regular stop on the main line, not a request stop. And no matter what happens to the other trains on a weekday evening, the 18:53 to Castle Cary is always on time.

What dark secret hold does Castle Cary have over the railway companies? Why do their trains never break down or lose their drivers or fall prey to any of the other ills that beset other services? Who is it who lives there whose punctuality can never be threatened by a collapsing rail network?

I think we should be told...
