Having left all my coup notes behind, and not having brought anything else to read because I was going to be keen and read it up on the way, I was climbing the furniture ten minutes into the journey. It didn't seem to bother Palinurus, of course. He just sat placidly gazing around him like a passenger in a groundbus. It's not actually done to ask someone about their origins until you know them quite well, but I'd bet my proceeds that he's vathatched. I'll have to see if I can find out when we get back.
Right now he's only adding to my irritation. As is the fact that I've just spent half an hour trying to write down the salient points of the Reversed Archelaus' Fancy and realised I can't recall a single solitary one.
The main thing is not to panic.
Going back is even less of an option now than it was before. If I was on my own I might risk it, try to skulk through to my quarters without being seen...but not with Laughing Boy here. It would be all over the homeship like white sand within seconds.Vassily has a way of looking at you when-- No.Out of the question. Onward and downward.
I do remember that it's a fairly high-tech coup, suitable for a fairly high-tech world like the one I'm heading for: Werek, fourth planet of Gorshin's Star. Just tech-high enough to cope with being an affiliated world, just tech-low enough that you can actually get away with stuff. Ideal for my purposes. If I could only remember what they were.
Whoops, atmosphere warning.
