It also seems to suggest, even within a fictional universe, a lack of character empathy, because like Dumbledore or not, his death results in a lot of pain and grief for most of the major characters in the series (even Snape, I would theorize). I was expecting Dumbledore's death in Book 6, but that didn't spare me one bit from the emotion at the end of the book. Not only did I care about Dumbledore's death, but I cried for all the characters I've come to bond with dealing with Dumbledore's loss.
