Well, it was certainly tainted by illegal activity on the part of various Leave campaign organisations, and by palpable lies such as "£350m a week for the NHS" on a bus, but the main point is that it was three years ago, people were asked to decide between two vastly oversimplified options with no kind of plan or information put forward on how the leaving would be done, and since the vote was taken we have learned a lot more about the probable consequences of leaving both with and without a deal. In particular the effect on the situation in Northern Ireland, the end of the Good Friday Agreement, and the resultant reignition of the Troubles, are a cause for concern.
