Uru again

avevale_intelligencer: (I do Uru.)
It's been a while, hasn't it? I bet you all thought I'd given it up. No indeed, though I admit I haven't been down to the Cavern much lately, and when I have there haven't been that many people around. This is because we're all waiting for the release of the brand new Uru Live, currently in beta, and set to be all the things that the original Uru Live would have been and more.

[livejournal.com profile] eleri reposted this from one of the developers' blogs:

This comes from the blog of Cyantist Ryan Warzecha, an all around nifty guy:

Consider this a quest...no, a request... We have a great number of people signed up for the beta; however, I am one of those types of people where there can never be enough. Call me crazy but I want a number that I spit out my morning coffee when I see it. I want a number that when I say the number in the morning meeting someone has to give Moke [another Cyantist] the Heimlich because he choked on his juice. I want a number that it gives Mark D [ditto] night sweats worrying if the server will stay up. I think you get what I am getting at. This does not mean I want you to sign up with every email address you have. Someone might ask if Turner is going to base funding on the number of people in beta. That is not the case. I just want the numbers for my own personal vendetta to say "Hey World... We are back... and guess what, this time it's personal."

I'd like to ask all my friends who have sufficiently whizzy machines and connections to consider going here and signing up for the beta. Even if Uru isn't your thing particularly. Not because I think you'll experience some miraculous road-to-Damascus conversion (you probably won't), not because the survival of Uru depends on it (I don't think it does), but just to make this chap happy. Because the games he has worked on have made me happy. I mean, at this stage you might not even be needed: they're doing the beta in stages, on a purely first-come-first-served basis, and they haven't got to me yet, and I signed up the day it was announced.

Even if you don't want to do it yourself, you might know someone I don't know who would be interested. If so, pass it along.

Let's make Ryan spit out his coffee.
