Little things that please me

From Margery Allingham's "Tiger In The Smoke," in which Magersfontein Lugg is trying to drive through an old-fashioned London fog:

"I could do with a spot of p and q in a padded cell meself. That was Marble Arch I was 'ootin' at. I thought she was takin' 'er time."

Makes me laugh every single time.

I love Magersfontein Lugg! Probably my favorite character in her books. I reread some of them recently (hmm, for some value of 'recent').

She's the only 'detective' type writer I still reread. Ah, it's characters again, my choices are very character driven, rather than plot (particularly with things involving a 'mystery', if I've read it before then I know the answer so that loses its interest but the characters still stay interesting).

Heee! Thanks for reminding me of these books. It's been too long.

Ohhhh yes! I remember that book and that line! And, what's more...

... (a few minutes of busy tapping pass) ...

I've just swiped it, with credit & thanks, for my quotation of the day. Dankon, amiko. :-)
