Sonnet
So, take my brain, still living, from the skull
And place it carefully upon your table.
Deploy your instruments, the sharp, the dull,
And all the subtle skills that you are able.
Summon th' etheric forces, call the fire
Of lightning to your bidding, bind the light,
Section the shrinking organ, and admire
The web of cells laid open to your sight.
Feed in the stimuli and watch the play
Of neurons; question me and I'll reply.
Naught will I stint to help you on the way;
No subject more co-operative than I.
And still, I'll wager, you will never find
One atom, cell, or process, to call MIND.
(I should perhaps point out that I am not asseverating that I personally have no mind. I worry sometimes.)
And place it carefully upon your table.
Deploy your instruments, the sharp, the dull,
And all the subtle skills that you are able.
Summon th' etheric forces, call the fire
Of lightning to your bidding, bind the light,
Section the shrinking organ, and admire
The web of cells laid open to your sight.
Feed in the stimuli and watch the play
Of neurons; question me and I'll reply.
Naught will I stint to help you on the way;
No subject more co-operative than I.
And still, I'll wager, you will never find
One atom, cell, or process, to call MIND.

This is unfair. Without this statement there would have been so many possibilities for jokes... ;)
Ah well, as it is I can only say: I like this sonnet, I like it very much! Thanks for sharing. :)

(By worrying about it you show that you have a mind. Cogito ergo sum. I think, therefore I am -- I think.)
