Song

Something in a sort of Drakish style (well, self-indulgent and whiny anyway), more about how I feel than anything that's actually happened.

STICKS AND STONES

I live my life
In a clutter of words
Some are set free to wander
Most go unheard
I work them with passion
I play them for fun
And I wouldn't give up
A single one

My words are my weapons
My sword and my spear
I've caused some hurt
And maybe some fear
The fights I've been in
Some I didn't choose
And sometimes when I win
I'd much rather lose

Sticks and stones
Can break your bones
But words can make
You feel so alone
Bones can mend
And pain will end
But in a war of words
You cannot pretend
You don't feel it...

I've tried to give
As good as I get
And I've taken wounds
I'll never forget
This wordy warfare
Is a dirty game
And for my part in it
I am the one to blame

Sticks and stones
Can break your bones
But words can make
You feel so alone
Body pain
Will fade again
But in a war of words
The wounds remain
Long as memory...

I live my life
In an armour of words
And when I go to battle
I'm undeterred
They say that victory
Should taste so sweet
But all I seem to find
Is one long defeat

'Cause when the battle ends
All that I see are friends
Wounded by the words
On which my life depends
My passion for words
Caused nothing but harm
And all I want right now
is to lay down arms
And stop fighting...

Sticks and stones...

Remember the ploughshares are made of the same stuff as the swords. Don't stop using the words.

I'm having problems with the scansion of the verse beginning "My words are my weapons" - and I never thought I say that about something you wrote. :) Is the tune different for that verse?
