Okay.

The point has been made.

You do not compel the police to increase their efficiency by publicly announcing that your gang will be turning over random people's houses till they are caught.

You do not persuade medical agencies to be more effective by publicly threatening random people with a chainsaw.

You do not influence an internet company to improve its security by publicly claiming that you are enabling the hacking of random people's accounts.

The internet is not, and should not be, the private playground of scientists, technicians and the military. People who do not have technical skills have as much right to be here as those who do, and they have a right to go about their netty business without having to deal with gratuitous fake threats. There are enough real ones. And those who have the skills, and hence the power, have also a responsibility to be civilised in their behaviour towards others, as do we all....and when we don't live up to that responsibility, we can expect to be called on it. I certainly do.

And anyway, I missed you all like mad. :)

So, I'm back. Many hugs and thanks to those who sent messages of concern, and to the friend who phoned and told me what was what, and I'm sorry for behaving like a flouncing drama queen.

Waspish maunderings and bad jokes will doubtless follow in due course.

Good to see you back - I understood why you'd retreated, but knew you'd be able to work it out for yourself without me hassling you about it. (Even if I'd had the mental energy to do so, which at the time I didn't.)

Way-hey! Bring on the waspish meanderings and bad jokes! :)

Good to see you back.

I do not share your opinion of Mr. Perry's actions, but I understand your position.
Using any tool without good knowledge & skill learnt is perfectly possible, but one needs to be aware (& self-responsible) of the fact that it brings more risk of possible negative consequences or side-effects, than using a tool with knowledge & skill. Even if the consequences or side-effect risks aren't always obvious.

Regardless of either of our positions, I'm glad to see you back. *hug*

Very glad you're back. I was worried.

I for one was very glad of your passing on the warning. Thank you.

I don't know exactly how the washing machine works, nor the television, nor the boiler, nor the car engine... I still use them. It helps to have some of the unexpected risks pointed out from time to time.

Looking forward to the maunderings and jokes.

I missed the point completely. In fact I'm still not sure what happened, but I'm glad to see you're back whatever took place!

Likewise. You had me worried for a bit there, man.

I 'm glad you didn't go away for good; I do enjoy your little talks... ;) It's refreshing to read intelligent opinions that aren't afraid of what others think; I would have missed your posts.

Although our dark career
Sometimes involves the crime of stealing,
We rather think that we're
Not altogether void of feeling.
Although we live by strife,
We're always sorry to begin it,
For what, we ask, is life
Without a touch of Poetry Drama in it?
