Dear Amy,

Hello, and welcome to the planet. It's a bit of a backwater, but there's hope that we may find some more exciting ones later on. Maybe you can help with that.

At some point you'll encounter a tall hairy object which for some reason persons of your persuasion tend to find disquieting. This is your moderately evil step-grandpa Zander. It's no good talking to him because he doesn't understand Small Person (he isn't so good at Large Person either, but we don't tell him that) but he is basically harmless. If you are lucky, you'll also meet your evil step-granny Janet, who is much nicer as long as you don't sit under her feet.

There are lots of exciting things to do. One of my favourites is called waiting. This is a gift of time, when you don't have to do anything except be there. Some people will tell you that you're supposed to be "bored" when this is happening, but I think they're wrong. There's far too much to do inside your head ever to be bored. You'll find out.

You have two of the nicest parents around. Just let them have an hour or two of sleep every day, and about the same amount of time plugged into the funny grey boxes (otherwise we won't know how you're doing!) and they'll be fine.

Love and hugs,

Zander

Agreed. That's delightful.

Dear Zander

Thank you for the welcome. I'm still adjusting to being here and at the moment I'm not that good at the whole waiting thing, especially if the waiting involves waiting for food - I get quite vocal about my disapproval of this. Mummy tells me it will get better when I have more conscious control of my hands and can stick my thumb in my mouth on purpose rather than by accident. She also has a tendency to mutter that this can't happen soon enough but I don't understand why.

Mummy hasn't spent that much time in front of the grey box since I arrived, but Daddy is making up for it. Sometimes Mummy says "No, dear!" to him quite loudly when he's sat there but I'm not sure he's really paying attention...

Mummy and Daddy and my big brother are wonderful and I'm very happy to have joined them. The world is still a rather fuzzy place but then fuzzy is nice so I'm not complaining about that. There are some other even fuzzier things running around the house but they usually don't come that near to me (except for the one that sat behind me as I had breakfast this morning - it was very hot and it rumbled!).

Love

Amy
