(The internet has been quite full lately of different versions of two pieces of music; Ramin Djawadi's excellent theme to the series Game of Thrones, and the song "Let It Go" from the Disney film Frozen. Being the kind of idiot I am, I thought it would be fun to mash up the two and see what happened.
And then the news broke that the producers had opted to include in a recent episode a gratuitous rape scene between two major characters, a scene that was not played that way in the books and seemed to have been put in simply because some people presumably enjoy watching women being raped. This kind of changed the song I was trying to write...)
GAME OF LETTING GO
The screen fades out—what was that all about?
Why’d you have to show that scene?
Gratuitous sexual violence
By the brother on the queen
The fans are howling on the internet tonight
And I must join in, because I know they’re right...
Don’t be such dicks, don’t be such trolls
It’s like you think that women don’t have souls
They’re not all witches, whores or crones
Let’s jam the phones
Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones
We don’t love you any more
Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones
You’ve revolted us to the core
I don’t care
What the dudebros say
Let the storm rage on
I’d rather watch Firefly anyway...
It’s funny how some writers
Can’t see the road ahead
And their brilliant female characters
All end up raped or dead
It’s time to tell them how we feel
To break the myth that women aren’t quite real
Just toys for boys to use and break
Mistake!
Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones,
You are part of the problem now
Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones
Got to make it right somehow
Here we stand
And here we’ll stay
Let the storm rage on...
You think it’s no big deal, that nothing will hurt your show,
That’s not the point, my friends, we’re trying hard to let you know
Your choice was lazy, sloppy, sexist and obscene
And now we’ll never know
How good you could have been...
Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones,
Where you have to win or die
Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones,
Your chance just passed you by
Here we stand
And we turn away
Let the storm rage on...
I’d rather watch Firefly any day...
