It's funny what gets to you

Out shopping with my music thing on, it came up with "Somewhere That's Green" from Little Shop Of Horrors.

I nearly came over all unnecessary right there in the car park. Thinking about dreams, and how we hunger for them, and how we sabotage ourselves to keep from ever achieving them.

Skid Row can be a state of mind. And it's even harder to get out of it then, because part of us clings to it.

[livejournal.com profile] dglenn's quote of the day just gave the knife another twist.

I have got to pull myself together and get a damn job.

You should get at least a decent job. A damn job just takes you farther from those dreams.

Is your energy level up enough to ease into meaningful work by doing some volunteer programs? It would make you feel good about what you are doing and maybe lead to better things.

Agreed - I've been looking into doing some volunteer work, as it appears that my current skill-set isn't terrifically useful in today's job market. The nice thing about volunteer work is that there are some really cool jobs around, and you get to build a bit of self-confidence whilst doing them.

Unfortunately, the reason I have to get a job is that we need more money coming in sort of nowish, so I don't have time to ease in. And a damn job is probably all I'll be able to get round here in the current climate. I've done damn jobs all my life, and ordinarily I can cope with them.

You and Brenda have a song about what I'm doing right now. As soon as I can think about doing something more useful without getting the shakes and the sweats like I did this afternoon, I'll be doing it.
