Well, if I were to object to it on principle, the principle would be along the lines of: charity is a virtue, not a requirement, and the government has no business mandating a virtue.

The thing is -- I can't explain why I feel that it is the government's job to keep people from starving to death but it is emphatically not the government's job to keep people from cheating on their spouses.
